DJI Phantom 4 Pro: radio remote control, obstacles and 4K / 60

The DJI Phantom 4, best-selling in multi-shot models for shooting, is back in an improved version. What's new in the program? The Phantom 4 Pro is the first multirotor intended for the general public (despite its name "pro") capable of filming in 4K and at 60 frames per second, instead of the classical 30 or 24 images by second. If you tried to shoot a panorama by rapidly rotating the camera on itself, in 4K / 24, you know that you get a very jerky video, unpleasant for the viewer. With a frame rate of 60 frames per second, the image is streamlined for optimum results on a 4K TV. The bit rate, in terms of data, is 100 Mb / s - it will take quality memory cards to hold the shock. The sensor of the Phantom 4 Pro is a 1-inch 20-megapixel 12-stops, which should satisfy the photographers ...

Detection in all directions

Dji-phantom-four-pro-02-1200 The detection and avoidance of obstacles recently introduced in the Phantom range only concerned what was at the front of the aircraft. The Phantom 4 Pro is now equipped with 3 stereo cameras. One is in front, the other behind and the third under the camera. They allow to create a 3D model of the environment to improve the detection and propose the avoidance. Infrared sensors on both sides complete the Phantom 4's security solution. An impressive device, coupled with the FlightAutonomy module, which now allows you to fly without fear of backing up and hitting an obstacle - you will obviously have to put the system to the test , Particularly that of thin branches of trees. Only obstacles above the unit will not be detected. DJI ensures that avoidance works up to 50 km / h! The Sport mode allows it to reach 72 km / h, but without detection of obstacles.

And…

Dji-phantom-four-pro-07-1200The Phantom 4 Pro comes with a new radio control, more compact than the previous models, which operates in 2.4 or 5.8 GHz (depending on the radio environment ). It's also equipped with a GPS receiver to manage the return to the starting point and tracking, a port for a microSD memory card and an HDMI port to broadcast the video feedback signal in (It needed an accessory on previous models). It can accommodate (optional) the Crystalsky screen to display video feedback and telemetry data. Edit: It seems that the HDMI port is only available on the GL300F version, which comes with the Crystalsky screen. The GL300E version without a display (for smartphones and tablets) does not have an HDMI connector.

On the software side?

Dji-phantom-four-pro-03-1200DJI GO is enriched with a "Draw" function: it draws the itinerary of the Phantom 4 Pro to the screen, and it follows it ... "Narrow Sensing" allows to fly in a Environment, between obstacles, without risking the fatal touch. There are always "ActiveTrack" functions for tracking people and objects, "Profile" and "Spotlight" which have been enriched with the detection of obstacles in all directions. "TapFly", which controls the Phantom 4 by touching a target point on the screen, gains modes to steal camera towards you, so camera facing back, and with a free orientation to point the camera at will during the flight. Finally, the "AR Route" function displays the flight path in the form of a dotted line on the screen to better manage the positioning of the camera. The price of the Phantom 4 Pro is 1699 €.
